Significance of this print
In Canada, Churchill, Manitoba is known as the "Polar Bear Capital of the world".
On April 24, 1996, The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles attended the grand opening of
Wapusk National Park of Canada. This new National Park is located east and south of
Churchill, Manitoba, protecting a vital habitat area that is 11,475 square kilometers.
This park is of International interest as it is one of the world’s largest polar bear
maternity denning sites. This designated parkland along the coast of Hudson Bay is also
home to hundreds of thousands of waterfowl and shoreline birds that feed there during
migration season.
To coincide with the opening of this National Park by His Royal Highness, the Royal
Canadian Mint introduced Canada’s first ever two dollar coin which features Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II on one side, and a polar bear on the other side.
"Northern Canadian Superiority - Polar Bear I" is the name I gave to my drawing.
A limited edition of 1,996 prints were created to commemorate this special "Polar
Bear" year for Canada.
Genuine love is the manner in which this gift was given.
